About Nyela Basney
Excellence, authenticity, joy, and creative engagement with musicians and audiences alike are the hallmarks of Nyela Basney’s three-decade career – one that encompasses over 1,200 performances as a conductor and pianist and that has taken her to Lincoln Center, rural Louisiana, Chicago, Sarajevo, Rome, Scotland, and Uruguay.
Miss Basney is a member of the Artist Faculty at the Chicago Conservatory of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and founder and Artistic Director Emerita of Orvieto Musica, Inc., an international chamber music festival she led for 30 years. She has received critical acclaim for her orchestral arrangements and conducts regularly in Italy, collaborating with concertmaster Alessandro Cervo, with whom she also presents recitals.
Working with Nyela in a Trusted Alliance masterclass setting was challenging and exhilarating. She worked with me to find the meaning and nuance of each phrase, and helped greatly with some phrasing, making the piece easier and more musical.
